Bosham Quay...A hidden gem!

The History

Bosham Quay, is a picturesque coastal village in West Sussex. The Quay has been inhabited since Roman times with it's links to Chichester Harbour, and is located close to Fishbourne Roman Palace.

It is also believed that Bosham is the place where King Canute proved that he could not turn back the tide, in contrary to the myth that he wanted to change the tide.

Present Day Bosham

Today it's a place far from legends, it's quaint, idyllic and calm. As a family we often head to Bosham to crab from the Jetty or the sea wall. Perfect time to crab, is when the tide is on it's way in or heading out and shallow.

There are a few shops, an art centre, cafe's and pubs within Bosham, all welcoming and visitor friendly with a very 'village' feel.

Bosham has a coastal path, this can quickly disappear when the tide is high, but is a lovely walk. But I take this opportunity to warn you, if you park close to the sea, your car could be swimming by the time you get back!!

A sailing club is a key feature for the village, and has been in use everytime we have visited. Next to the sailing club, there is a field, the Meadow which is cared for by the National Trust, it's lovely for picnics and games and looking out over the water.

There's a large tree, with a rope swing and is great for climbing, as well as a short stretch of stream which has a tyre swing and a trapeze bar, which is always a must when we visit.

Stop for lunch and an Ice cream from the van, by the waters edge. If your in search of a tranquil adventure, then Bosham could be the place!

Car Park is pay and display (£4 for 24 hours...other rates available) Toilets in the car park and the Arts Centre. Please be aware Mud Flats can be very unsafe to walk on.
